Why Freshness Matters with BOTOX®

Why Freshness Matters with BOTOX®

Posted: June 8, 2011

In Southern California, we know the benefits of choosing fresh, locally grown produce: it is more sustainable, may use less harmful farming practices, and provides better nutrition. But did you know that the “freshness” of your BOTOX® in Orange County also matters? In fact, the effectiveness of your treatment may depend, in part, to how fresh the BOTOX Cosmetic is.

How does BOTOX “go bad”?

BOTOX is actually shipped vacuum-sealed and dried and the doctor “reconstitutes” the dry substance into liquid form using a sterile saline solution. After being reconstituted, BOTOX begins to lose its effectiveness. The makers of BOTOX (Allergan, Inc.) recommend that BOTOX be injected within the first 6 hours after being reconstituted.

How will I know if my BOTOX injection is fresh?

There is no sure way to know if your treatment provider is using fresh BOTOX. That’s why it’s important that you find a qualified physician you can trust. During your initial consultation, simply ask your BOTOX provider if they inject freshly reconstituted BOTOX during their treatments. You may also want to ask if they have been recognized as a Platinum Provider – which ensures that the doctor has extensive experience with BOTOX Cosmetic injections.
